How Dental Implants Can Help Keep Your Teeth Straight

How Dental Implants Can Help Keep Your Teeth Straight

Dental implants are a popular replacement for missing or severely damaged teeth. Implants are permanent prosthetics that make it easier to chew, speak, and smile with confidence.

Our team at EZ Dental Clinic in Bellevue, Washington, has extensive experience in placing dental implants, and we want to highlight one particular benefit of implants that isn’t discussed too often: how dental implants can help keep your teeth straight.

Can dental implants keep your teeth straight?

Yes, dental implants can help straighten your smile! But before we explain how that’s possible, let’s first review the anatomy of a dental implant. Dental implants contain three parts: a titanium post that is surgically implanted into your jawbone, an abutment (a connector piece), and the dental crown that serves as the prosthetic tooth. The titanium post is biocompatible and fuses to your jaw bone in a process called osseointegration. During this process, bone grows around the titanium fixture, and, according to research published in Clinical Calcium, this process is much like natural bone healing.

How do implants stay straight?

The post and bone fuse, creating an incredibly strong and stable foundation. This means that the implant won’t move or shift out of place, and  when we place the implant, we can set the tooth perfectly straight. If you previously had crooked teeth, your new implants don’t have to mirror the previous angles of your teeth.

Even if you're replacing a whole row of teeth with dental implants, you can achieve a straight smile without the need for any orthodontic treatment, and because implants are permanently secured to your jaw bone, you don’t have to worry about them sliding out of place.

The aesthetics of a dental implant

In addition to creating a new, straighter smile, dental implants can also enhance the appearance of your smile in other ways too. When customizing the crown of your dental implant, we ensure that the color blends flawlessly with the rest of your teeth. Crowns can be made of zirconia or porcelain, and both materials imitate the natural translucency of enamel.

If we’re replacing all of your teeth with implant-supported dentures, we don’t need to match the crowns to your natural teeth. This lets you choose a new, brighter shade for your teeth, giving you the dazzling smile you’ve always wanted.

Other benefits of dental implants

Dental implants keep your teeth straight — but there are other reasons to consider them as your restoration of choice:

Dental implants not only restore the function of your mouth, but they also restore your self-confidence. Our team is on a mission to help restore your teeth without compromising aesthetics. Whether you’re missing one tooth or a full row of teeth, we’re happy to walk you through all of your tooth-replacement options from single implants and implant-supported dentures to full dentures.
