Dental Sealants

What if you could prevent cavities in hard-to-clean areas on your back teeth? With dental sealants, you can. Sealants are thin, protective coatings that we place on the deep groves of your molars (back teeth,) blocking out cavity-causing bacteria and making the surfaces easier to brush clean.

Who Needs Sealants?

At EZ Dental Clinic, we recommend placing sealants on permanent molars. We call these the “first” and “second” set of molars, which tend to come in around ages 6 and 12, respectively. It’s best to seal them as soon as they’ve fully erupted, since children often have a difficult time cleaning them thoroughly. In fact, most dental insurance plans cover them at 100% as a preventative procedure for children up to 14 years of age. But if you’re an adult, you can still opt to add this affordable service onto any checkup appointment.

What To

Dental Sealants Bellevue WA

Getting dental sealants is a relatively quick and easy procedure. First, we’ll use a special agent to clean and slightly roughen the surface of the enamel, then we brush the liquid sealant onto the tooth and cure it with a bright light. No numbing is necessary. All we have to do is keep the tooth very dry during the few minutes that the process takes.

Sealant Maintenance

Since sealants aren’t permanent like a filling, they can pull off if you eat very sticky foods (such as taffy or caramel.) The sealant has a tight bond on your tooth, but what you eat and extensive use may cause the protective layer to come off over time. If needed, our Bellevue dentist can touch up your sealants to keep them lasting several years.
