Dentures Q&A

Can I choose from different types of dentures?

Yes. The dentists at EZ Dental Clinic offer many choices of dentures so you can get the type that fits your mouth and works best for your dental needs. You can choose from several levels of dentures, including:

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace several missing teeth. They’re made from acrylic or metal frames, and porcelain prosthetic teeth are fused to the frame. Partials have a metal clip that snaps around your existing teeth to hold them in place.

Full dentures

Full dentures replace all of your upper or lower teeth. These dentures are made from an acrylic base that rests on your gums, creating a seal that secures the dentures in your mouth.

Same-day dentures

Same-day dentures are produced in the office so they’re ready to wear before you leave. If you had a tooth extraction at the same visit, you may need to return in several months to have your dentures refitted. The shape of your gums changes slightly as they heal, which may affect the fit of your dentures.

Implant-supported dentures

A dental implant is a small post that’s implanted in your jawbone for the purpose of anchoring crowns, bridges, and dentures. Full and partial dentures are held in place with two to four implants. Your dentures may snap on and off the implant or be permanently attached.

What should I expect when getting dentures?

The process of getting your new dentures typically requires at least two visits. If you need to have teeth extracted or implants inserted, your dentist at EZ Dental Clinic completes your dental care during your first visit. Then your gums and jawbone need time to heal before being fitted for your dentures.

After you heal — or at the first visit if you don’t need dental work — your dentist takes an impression of your mouth and sends it to the lab making your customized dentures. When your dentures are ready, you’ll schedule another appointment to get them.

What if my dentures become loose in the future?

Over time, it’s natural for the shape of your gums to change. As a result, the dentures that used to fit perfectly may start to feel loose. When that happens, the dentists at EZ Dental Clinic offer denture realignment, resurfacing the inside of your dentures to make them fit more securely.
